Mooa Kang is an artist whose work explores the relationship between nature, color, and the body across various mediums including painting, sculpture, functional objects, and textiles. She reimagines the organic curvilinear imagery found in nature’s footprint and female bodies, transforming them into vibrant expressions of abstraction. Bridging the gap between art and design, Kang aspires to create utopia in everyday life, enriching the world with a little more color and joy.
Mooa holds an MDes in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design as well as an MFA and a BFA in Korean Painting, both from Ewha Womans University. Mooa’s selected group exhibitions include: WOMEN, Gallery B612, Seattle (2024); Body Expansion, Ewha Art Center, Seoul (2019), and So Please Listen and Just Hear Me, Horim Art Center, Seoul (2019). Her work has been featured in Korea Times, DESIGNxRI, and Woman Sense Magazine, among others. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the RISD Nature Lab, the National Library of Korea, and Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital.
무아 (b.1992) 는 “자연, 색, 몸” 세 가지 주제의 관계성에 기반한 회화, 조각, 오브제 및 텍스타일을 활용한 작업을 이어가고 있다. 자연과 몸에서 공통적으로 나타나는 곡선적, 유기적 이미지를 재해석해 추상적 장면으로 재창조한다. 존재의 생성과 소멸에 대한 질문을 던지는 것에 관심이 있으며, 미술과 디자인을 아우르는 시도를 통해 일상 속에서 환상의 세계를 마주하길 희망한다.
무아는 이화여대 동양화과 및 동대학원 석사를 졸업한 후 미국 로드아일랜드 디자인스쿨에서 인테리어 건축과 전시디자인 석사를 졸업하였다. 주요 단체전으로는 《WOMEN》(2024, Gallery B612), 《확장하는 신체》(2019, 이화아트센터), 《So Please Listen and Just Hear Me》(2019, 호림아트센터) 등이 있다. 한국일보, DESIGNxRI, SBS 뉴스, 우먼센스 매거진에서 보도된 바 있으며 RISD Nature Lab, 국립중앙도서관, 이대서울병원에 작품이 소장되어 있다.
